Jiaogulan is a plant that grows wild in parts of Asia and the leaf is used to make medicine. Jiaogulan is sometimes referred to as "Southern Ginseng" because it grows primarily in south central China and is used in similar ways to ginseng. According to WebMD, Jiaogulan "contains substances that might help reduce cholesterol levels". Chinese and Japanese people have been drinking this tea for thousands of years as an antioxidant, stress reliever and detoxification herb. The vine’s leaves were first used as a food; they could be eaten by themselves or used in a salad. Tea made from the leaves is caffeine-free and has a slightly bittersweet taste.
